I wanted to share my personal favorites for my favorite area of my beloved Barcelona, Poblenou. In the last seven years, I’ve lived in various parts of the city, but Poblenou is special. An old industrial neighborhood located in the north of the Mediterranean-facing city, Poblenou is rich with history, culture and home to lots of places to eat, drink, shop, and more. My list starts with my preferred spots, but at the bottom you can find places that I just haven’t got around to trying yet but seem promising!
ESPAÑOL: Quiero compartir mis sitios favoritos de mi barrio favorito, Poblenou. Durante los últimos siete años, he vivido en varias zonas de la ciudad, pero Poblenou (o Pueblo Nuevo) es especial. Antes un barrio totalmente industrial, Poblenou está en el norte de la ciudad condal con vistas al Mediterráneo. Lleno de historia, cultura y muchos sitios para donde comer, beber, comprar y más. Mi lista empieza con mis sitios favoritos, pero al final hay más sitios que todavía no he podido probar pero seguramente son buenos.
To eat + drink // Para comer + beber:
- La Biennal – Great spot of a family friend of ours in heart of Rambla Poblenou (beautiful tree-lined avenue). Highly recommend coming for tapas (might try ordering their bravas potatoes, croquettes, any of their fried seafood – so good!) // La Biennal es un restaurante de un amigo de la familia, y está en el corazón de Rambla Poblenou. Recomiendo probar su menú de tapas (especialmente sus patatas bravas, las croquetas de cocido, los chocos… muy muy bueno todo!)
- La Tertulia – another spot of a family friend located on Rambla Poblenou. Can’t go wrong with their lunch special everyday, cheapest M-F. Fast service too, always busy though so if you want to come with a group, make a reservation in advance! // Otro sitio de un amigo de la familia también en Rambla Poblenou. No fallas con su menú del medio día (todos los días). Atienden rápidos aunque siempre está lleno así que recomiendo hacer una reserva si vas a venir con un grupo grande.
- El menjador de Sala Beckett — place with great atmosphere on Pere IV.

- Blu Bar
- Baluard Barceloneta – easily my favorite bakery in Barcelona, very lucky to have one so close to home. Highly recommend any and all of their breads, their croissants, the canolis, cheesecakes… you cannot go wrong! A bit pricier than other bakeries but worth it for the quality. // Sin duda mi panderia favorita en Barcelona, tengo suerte de tener una tan cerca de mi casa. Recomiendo sus panes, croissants, canolis y tartas de queso… no puedes fallar! Baluard tiene los precios un poco más altos que las demás, pero en mi opinión vale la pena para la calidad.

- La Real Hamburguesería — hearty burgers, so good!
- Camping Barcelona – cute stand with outdoor seating in Poblenou Park heading towards the beach // chiringuito en el Parc de Poblenou
- La Fábrica empanadas
- Balius Bar
- Koh – ramen bar
- Can den de – delicious brunch spot – always busy- normal prices! YUM.
- El Santet – (tapas & drinks near Poblenou Cemetery)
- El 58 – tapas restaurant on Rambla Poblenou, cute vibes inside (their sister place, Le Petit across the street has outside terrace). Great quality food.
Cafés / Coffee shops:
- Little Fern — pictured in the photos above and below here. Such a cute café with delicious coffees, juices and desserts. They also serve a full lunch menu, I just have not tried it yet! // es el café de las fotos arriba y abajo. Un sitio con encanto que disponen de café delicioso, zumos y postres. Tambíen tienen un menú del medio día, pero no lo he probado todavía.
- Molika Café – super cute upstairs part! // Me encanta la parte de arriba.
- Espai Joliu – charming café/ concept plant store. Often busy but worth waiting for a table. // Café / tienda de concepto de plantas. Están a tope muchas veces pero vale la pena esperar para una mesa.
- Sopa – large cafe with both indoor and outdoor seating, good for working, healthy/eco food, good for kids.
- Santa Gloria

- Stroll beautiful Rambla Poblenou
- Can Framis Museum – great hidden gem of this area. This modern Catalan painting museum is wonderful! If you live in BCN and have a library card it costs only 2 euros to get in. Definitely lots to see inside! // Un tesoro del barrio- este museo de pintura moderna de artistas catalanes es maravilloso. Si vives en BCN y tienes una tarjeta de biblioteca, sale sólo 2 euros la entrada. Sin duda hay muchas obras de arte para descubrir!
- Glóries Shopping center
- Stroll Diagonal down towards Diagonal Mar shopping center
- Bogatell or Mar Bella beaches
Beauty // Belleza:
- Marco Aldany on Rambla Poblenou does a nice job // peluquería buena
- Aloha Beauty – nice salon for nails, waxing, facials and massages. Friendly staff and good music. Normal prices. // centro de belleza (uñas, depilación, faciales, masaje, etc). Servicio muy amable y ponen buena música. Precios normales.
Places I haven’t personally gone to but have lots of hype and/or are on my “to try” list // Sitios que no he probado todavía pero tienen muy buena reputación y/o están en mi lista pendiente por probar:
- Tío Che (horchata, gelato, treats, etc.)
- Nice Spice (Indian restaurant on Pujades)
- La Picanteria (Peruvian food, cute dog friendly spot) + La Picantería Brunch
- Recasens (expensive but looks so good, menu has lots of fondue dishes)
- Caffeine (coffee shop)
- LEKA (Mediterranean restaurant)
- Doroteo (Mexican restaurant)
- Mes de vi – cute, semi-pricey wine bar + small plates
